Step 1: Everything starts with the magic of picking your target buyer…

Everyone talks about niching. But niching is not about just finding the right group of people. You need to find the ones with a shared common goal. For example…

Course business owners who want something specific–like growing an email list or growing an audience on LinkedIn.

Step 2: Time to get ninja with your email list. Slice and dice, segment and conquer

Most online businesses have an email list. But the size of your email list does not matter as much as its quality.

Segmenting your email list is the best way to refine the list further. And you can segment your list based on various factors, including profession, interests, specific points of entry, and more.

Step 3: Nail that first impression. Make the right promise on your opt-in page.

A mistake I made (and many others, too) is to focus on the signups but forget the quality of each email address in the list. If you want “hungry men,” your message should be “Hey man, are you hungry?” and not “Hey, are you hungry?”

Qualify your subscribers by making the right promise. As a bonus, use your understanding of your target buyers’ intentions in your opt-in page copy so you always get the right people in your email list.

This can result in a dip in the number of leads. But it also ensures that whoever enters your list will likely buy something from you.

Step 4: Create a lead magnet–your secret weapon that mentally moves your buyers

The job of a lead magnet is to act like a gift for your subscriber that they get in exchange for sharing their email address. But that’s just half its job description.

What happens after someone’s given you their email address? Well, it’s time for your lead magnet to mentally move your buyers to the next step in their journey with your business.

No matter what your lead magnet is–an ebook, email course, or something else–it should give your email subscriber a clear call to action (CTA) for the next step.

Step 5: Keep the fires burning with regular engagement. They'll be eating out of your hand in no time.

Everyone goes to bed with dreams but wakes up with a to-do list. Dreams are forgotten, and so are your lead magnets. That’s why most email lists are filled with “I-don’t-know-how-I-got-in-here emails.” This is bad for any business.

Your goal must be to get into your buyers’ to-do lists every morning and back into their dreams every night. You stay there and engage with them long enough for your buyers to get familiar with and recognize you.

Step 6: Engage 'em with the right actions, just like a maestro conducting a symphony. Stir their emotions, and they'll dance to your tune

Although your buyers are thinking of you, it isn’t enough. You need to set them up for the next step. And you need to do that regularly. At some point, the next step will be the sale.

A conscious and clear call to action is what your buyers need after they download your lead magnet.

Step 7: Structure, structure, structure - the key to a killer offer. Make it impossible to refuse.

You no longer need a sales letter when you’ve done everything from steps one through six. All you need is the right offer.

Structuring the right offer is about structuring the package you’ll deliver to your buyers when they buy your course. What do they get, and how can that help them with their goals?

Step 8: Go beyond pricing–Add that extra sprinkling of magic to seal the deal.

“How much does it cost?” is the question on every buyer’s mind. And the moment you give them the price, you’ve lost control of the sale. But there’s a better approach…

Instead of focusing on the price, focus on the payment. Make it easy for the buyer to pay you the price. This is where you want to look for various payment options, including part-payment, easy monthly installments, free trial, etc.

It took me two full days to implement these for my course. And it took me even more time to tweak, and here’s what I thought to myself…

“I wish I could get someone like Dan Kennedy to help me with this…”

When I started implementing this, I was in the early stages of selling my courses in an evergreen funnel…
